Velázquez, 31 years old and a native of Holguín, was one of the11 people - nine Cubans and two Guatemalans - who lost their lives in a triple collision which occurred last Saturday, at kilometer 134 of the highway that leads from Chicacao to Mazatenango, in Suchitepéquez. An agricultural truck where the Cubans were traveling, a motorcycle and a van were involved in the accident.
The preliminary version of the facts indicates that the vehicle in which the migrants were crowded - who were seeking to reach the border with Mexico and continue their route to the United States - hit the motorcycle and later the truck.
Orland Cruz, a friend of Velázquez, began raising financial aid on social networks to repatriate the body of the young woman, who lived in the town of Velasco, in the municipality of Gibara.

His friends that he left in Cuba and those of us who also met abroad in other countries. It has been a hard blow, an irreparable loss. Cruz expressed the desire of him and other friends of Velázquez to support the funeral expenses and return of his body, so that "it can be sent to Cuba and he can have a dignified farewell with his mother and friends on the Island."

Bárbaro Alexander López Miranda, 29, was the only Cuban to survive the fatal traffic accident. The young man receives psychological care at the Escuintla health center, where he is recovering from his injuries, and will have immigration support from the authorities of the Central American country, according to the Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM).
