The girl Amanda Lemus Ortiz, who suffers from bile duct atresia, traveled this Sunday to Spain where he will undergo a liver transplant, a procedure that they had not been able to do in Cuba due to lack of resources.

"Came the day. Do you know those faces of unique happiness? It is what is reflected in that image. About to leave towards hope and life”, activist Yamilka Lafita (Lara Crofs) wrote on Instagram along with a photo of the family at the Havana Airport.

“It is now ready to fly. She is assisted by Dr. Villamil on the flight, so we can all be calmer. It would be nine hours of waiting to find out how everything went on the flight. Thank you for everything my people. We continue”, wrote Lafita in another publication in which little Amanda was seen with her mother on the plane.

The case achieved significant notoriety on social networks since the end of January and put the Cuban health system on the ropes.

Amanda's health campaign took on new momentum after The little girl's mother apologized to her daughter in an emotional publication on Facebook for not being able to offer him the medical care and treatment he needs.

"I ask your forgiveness, my daughter, for being born into a poor family, for being the daughter of a worker, for not being the daughter of someone famous and powerful. I ask your forgiveness for not having parents with enough influence to buy you your health, to buy you the food you need, the medicines, the things that a girl like you needs," Mila Ortiz wrote on her networks.

His words immediately mobilized thousands of Cubans, inside and outside the island, who offered economic and emotional support to the family.

On February 10, the campaign on the fundraising platform GoFundMe for the girl's health exceeded the goal of $20,000 which made it easier to complete the trip that is now a reality.

However, Amanda's case is not the only one of its kind. Other children remain on the island, such as Ashley Manuela Echaide Mesa and Milan Michel Navarro Reinoso, who are also waiting for a liver transplant in Cuba.

Other similar cases have had fatal outcomes, such as that of Cristian Miguel Bencomo, who died at just three years old, in the middle of last year, while waiting for a liver transplant in Cuba.
