The approval of tourist visas for the United States that Cubans apply for in Guyana has dramatically decreased, explained the facilitator Anairis Pérez, through her TikTok channel.
The woman noted this week that out of 20 of her cases submitted, only four were approved and one has entered administrative processing (an evaluation that can take anywhere from 3 months to a year).
He said that there are questions in the consular interview that are repeated in each case and can cause confusion, especially among older adults.
He clarified that the questions that are repeated in each interview are "whether you belonged to the Communist Party, whether you have been involved in the activities of the revolution, whether you had your humanitarian parole in place, and this is relevant because tourist visas are for non-emigrants who will return to their country," he explained.
According to Pérez, answering any of these incorrectly may result in the denial of the visa.
Cubans applying for a tourist visa to the U.S. must travel to Guyana to apply at the consulate of that country.
The United States Embassy in Cuba recently issued a warning about the consequences of lying during the consular interview.
Through its official account on X (formerly Twitter), it reminded that consular officials have access to records of past immigration violations and emphasized the importance of responding truthfully.
"Consular officials are aware of any past immigration violations. Be honest in your interview. Lying can result in a ban," the Embassy stated in its message directed at those planning to initiate a legal immigration process to the U.S.
Hiding information or providing false data during the interview can lead to severe penalties, including visa denial and being barred from entry to the U.S. for several years.
This warning arises in the context of new immigration regulations driven by the Trump administration, which could reportedly place Cuba on a list of countries subject to additional restrictions for entering U.S. territory.
