As part of an offensive against recovery centers for cosmetic surgery patients operating without a license in South Florida, the police arrested a Cuban couple in recent hours who were allegedly illegally operating a post-operative rehabilitation house in West Miami-Dade.

The arrest of Marileydis Gómez, 49 years old, and Lázaro González Bordao, 51, who were managing Diamond Post Care Recovery Home, was announced by the authorities this Thursday.

The couple was managing the residence along with Yaiset del Pino Gómez, 30 years old, who is currently at large, according to a police report cited by Local10 News.

The agents of the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office reported that Diamond Post Care Recovery Home had a business license, but not to operate as an assisted living facility, as required by law. The property is located at the corner of Southwest 75th Avenue and Florida Boulevard, on the outskirts of the city of Miami.

On Wednesday, the police executed a search warrant at the residence, where they found four patients along with an employee responsible for their care.

The worker reported to the authorities that Gómez paid her only 14 dollars per hour, in cash, for her services. For their part, the patients said they paid $300 per night to recover at home.

The agents also found trash bins filled with illegally discarded medical waste, including items contaminated with human feces, blood, and urine, which they claimed poses "a credible and real biological threat to public welfare and health."

Gómez was arrested on charges of operating an unlicensed assistance center, littering, illegally disposing of hazardous waste, failing to monitor biomedical waste, and causing harmful health disturbances.

Meanwhile, the charges against González had not been confirmed by the authorities, nor was his photo available in police records, noted Local 10.

Neither the authorities nor the television channel specified the nationality of the detainees, a fact that was confirmed by CiberCuba.

Florida authorities have intensified the scrutiny of aesthetic treatment clinics and recovery houses, particularly those operating illegally, an action that constitutes a third-degree felony.

The Cuban Mónica García was arrested in Miami along with her daughter for operating an unlicensed recovery center for cosmetic surgeries and for improperly handling medical waste in another residence in Miami-Dade. The woman denied the accusations.

In March of last year, Ahmonique Miller, a 28-year-old mother from Las Vegas, died in a postoperative recovery house in Miami after undergoing a cosmetic procedure at Avana Plastic Surgery.
