The news has already been communicated to their family members, who have been provided with the necessary support in these circumstances, they added.

Pérez Rodríguez, a worker at UEB Correos and a resident of the Ciudad Sur Popular Council, was reported missing from his home following the river overflow. The search for Antonio Angulo Caballero, 74 years old, who lives in the El Jobo Popular Council, is still ongoing.

Angulo was reported missing since October 22 and Pérez Rodríguez since October 23. The page “Bloguero Tanameño” initially spread the news of their disappearance and the alleged drowning death of both, which occurred on Wednesday during the flooding.

The incident has the municipality of Sagua de Tánamo on alert, where there have been reported rises associated with the recent rains.

Local authorities reiterated their support for the families and urged the public to follow official channels for new updates regarding the case, while verification efforts continue.

Although it has been ruled out that these cases are directly  related to Hurricane Melissa, the heavy rainfall recorded in recent days could have contributed to the rising river levels and the challenging terrain conditions in the eastern region of the country.

On social media,  family and neighbors have urged to avoid rumors and to act with caution while rescue operations continue.
