The Cuban content creator Alianis Leyva González (@alianisleyva) shared a video on her social media that depicts the harsh economic reality faced by thousands of families on the island.

According to what he explained, he spends 400 Cuban pesos on purchasing two bags of bread to ensure the school snack and breakfast for his son throughout the week.

"Of the two bags, with six loaves each, the first one is only for school and the other is for breakfast," explained the young mother, who also revealed that she has to freeze the loaves so they don’t spoil and last her the whole week.

Leyva lives in a municipality where bread is scarce, as they only have the state bakery that sells a small loaf of bread per ration book to each consumer.

"The bread sold loose is brought in from other cities and is not always available," he lamented.

The Cuban also recalled that the average salary in the country is around 2,100 pesos, which highlights the difficulty of feeding children properly. At her son's school, she mentioned, the State provides a loaf of bread to each student, as many cannot bring snacks from home.
