The pitcher Wilson Paredes, a key figure of the Holguín team in the 64th National Baseball Series, is recovering well at the “Lucía Iñiguez Landín” Clinical Surgical Hospital after suffering a traffic accident that resulted in a left collarbone fracture.

According to the medical report, the athlete remains in good spirits, in constant communication with his family and the medical team attending to him.

Since admission, the initial therapeutic approach was surgical; however, during the preoperative evaluation, a team of orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, clinicians, and radiologists detected respiratory symptoms and signs that, following additional studies, were identified as a pulmonary inflammatory process of probable bacterial origin.

To avoid trans and postoperative complications —given that the surgery requires general orotracheal anesthesia with airway manipulation— the specialists postponed the intervention and scheduled antibiotics and nebulizations.

After four days of treatment, the patient has improved and could be in a condition to undergo surgery in the coming days, they indicated.

The hospital assured that it has the necessary provisions for the intervention, both in terms of experienced human resources and medical supplies, and reiterated its commitment to the comprehensive recovery of the pitcher.

The institution emphasized that everything is being done to ensure that Paredes returns to the team and continues to contribute to the victories of the Cubs.

According to the contextual information released after the incident by journalist Luis Lamoth Quiala, the accident occurred in his home province and initial clinical assessments confirmed a clavicular fracture in three fragments with segment separation, which indicates that surgical intervention is likely the therapeutic approach to correct the injury.

The situation forced a temporary halt to his career this season, in which he had been one of the most pivotal pitchers for Holguín.

The loss of Paredes represents a significant setback for a team that is competing in the top positions; his performance was noted as a key factor in the positive balance of the roster this season.

As clinical recovery progresses, the club and fans await the surgical procedure and the rehabilitation timelines that will determine the eventual return of the pitcher to the mound.
