The Cuban Adys Laborda, who was a doctor in Cuba, has gone viral on social media after sharing a video where she tells her inspiring story of overcoming challenges in the United States. Today, Laborda works as a real estate agent in Las Vegas, but her journey to get there was not easy.
"Before becoming a realtor, there was a woman who came to this country and worked at a flower shop, then in housekeeping, collecting trash at hotels for a company. She was a stripper because what I never liked was being a kept woman," the Cuban woman said in a video posted on her TikTok account, @adyslaborda.
The young woman explained that between being a doctor in Cuba and becoming a real estate agent in the United States, there was a woman “who was never afraid to start from the bottom or from scratch,” and who never asked anyone for permission to keep moving forward.
"So yes, today I am a realtor in Las Vegas, not because life handed it to me, but because I earned every step with courage and sacrifice: from a flower shop to real estate offices; from cleaning hotel rooms to closing deals; from picking up trash to handing over keys to my clients," he added.
Laborda also took the opportunity to respond to the criticisms from some users, sending a message of empowerment and determination: “And you, my dear, who talks so much, at what point in history did you run out of strength? Where did you leave your courage? It’s not that I’m better than anyone; it’s just that I chose to take action while others decided to stay put.”
Her words, filled with pride and resilience, were applauded by hundreds of users who saw the story of many Cuban immigrants reflected in her, who arrive in the United States ready to start from scratch to achieve their dreams.
In Cuba, Adys Laborda practiced medicine, one of the most demanding and poorly paid professions on the island, where many professionals end up abandoning their careers due to low salaries and a lack of opportunities. Her story has become an example of hard work, independence, and female bravery.
