An elderly man who worked as a mototaxi driver was recently the victim of a violent assault in Sancti Spíritus after being deceived by a man from Ciego de Ávila. The man requested his services and led him to a remote area under the pretext of picking up some chickens for his sick son.

According to the report released this Friday on Facebook by the official page Avileños de Corazón, the attacker named José Luis González Valgas seized the first moment of inattention to strike the driver and leave him on the ground, taking the motorcycle that was his family's means of support.

The publication states that the police acted quickly and captured the suspect shortly thereafter, while the motorcycle was recovered from alleged receivers, who were also implicated.

The case generated outrage among internet users who reported the frequency of similar assaults, the violence of the methods used, and the feeling of vulnerability on the streets.

Several comments questioned the effectiveness of the sanctions and pointed out that recidivism is encouraged by what they consider insufficient penalties.

Users in Ciego de Ávila and Morón stated that thefts involving force and violence have become common, and according to testimonies, authorities require catching the thief "in the act" in order to take action, which increases citizens' frustration.

Other readers emphasized that the aggressors are willing to do anything to achieve their goals and called for severe punishments, while also recommending greater caution to those offering transportation services in remote areas.

The general reaction agreed on the need to curb violence and protect those who work honestly in what they describe as an increasingly widespread criminal atmosphere.

In early November, a 34-year-old young man affectionately known as Carlitos was murdered in Cárdenas, Matanzas, by a man who, according to neighbors and relatives, was on probation.

The incident sparked great outrage in the community due to the lack of control over individuals with criminal records.

Another young man identified as Raídel passed away on October 15 in Cienfuegos due to the injuries sustained during a violent incident that occurred on the seaside promenade of that city, one of the most crowded places in the city.

During the month itself, residents of a boarding house in downtown Santiago de Cuba discovered the lifeless body of José Luis Rodríguez, known as "Jaca", inside his home on Maceo Street, between Carnicería and Moncada.

Insecurity in several Cuban cities has escalated due to a combination of factors such as the economic crisis, a lack of control by the authorities, and increasing impunity.

These elements have created a conducive environment for the increase of thefts, murders, and other violent crimes.
