CiberCuba reached unprecedented audience figures across all its digital platforms during the week of January 3 to 9, 2026, driven by its special coverage of the capture of Nicolás Maduro and the political repercussions in Cuba, Venezuela, and the United States. The international interest in the operation ordered by President Donald Trump and the role of the Cuban regime in the events made CiberCuba one of the leading news sites regarding both countries during those days.

Absolute record on Facebook

The page CiberCuba Noticias on Facebook achieved an unprecedented milestone by surpassing 425.7 million views in just seven days, a remarkable increase of 87% compared to the previous week. The peak audience coincided with the historic record set on January 3, when CiberCuba reached 96 million views in a single day, driven by coverage of the arrest of Nicolás Maduro and statements from President Donald Trump.

During that same week, the platform recorded 17 million unique viewers (+145%) and 3.6 million interactions (+117%). Several reels exceeded one million views in less than 24 hours, and the most viewed one has already accumulated 2.5 million plays, solidifying the page as one of the Hispanic media outlets with the greatest reach on Facebook during the coverage of an international event.

The most impactful content was related to the statements of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reports on Cuban military personnel involved in operations in Venezuela, and Donald Trump's announcements from the White House.

Instagram

On Instagram, CiberCuba recorded 16.5 million views and a reach of 1.8 million accounts in the week from January 3 to 9, representing a growth of 260% compared to the previous period. Forty percent of those views came from non-follower users, reflecting a strong organic expansion of the medium.

The audience was concentrated in Cuba (23 %), Venezuela (21.4 %), United States (20 %), and Spain (7 %), consolidating the international projection of the medium among Cubans both inside and outside the Island.

YouTube and TikTok double their traffic

The CiberCuba YouTube channel recorded 831,000 views (+131%) and 14,100 hours of watch time (+149%) in the week from January 3 to 9, with an increase of 1,400 new subscribers, reaching a total of 392,000. The most viewed videos were the coverage on the capture of Maduro, Trump's remarks, and analyses of the Cuban government's position on the Venezuelan crisis.

On TikTok, CiberCuba reached 674,000 views (+136%) and 10,000 likes (+110%) during that same week, with a significant increase in new viewers (+568%). More than 88% of the traffic came from the "For you" section, reflecting a remarkable organic boost toward audiences who had not previously followed the media outlet.

Record in mobile applications

The CiberCuba app for Android reached an all-time high with 956 downloads in a single day (January 3), more than three times the annual average. On iOS, the application reported 14,500 impressions (+245 %), 9,270 product page views (+765 %), and 720 downloads (+467 %), with a conversion rate of 6.3 %.

These simultaneous spikes reflect a strong increase in interest in the mobile application during the days when international attention was focused on Venezuela and Cuba.

Web traffic and blocks in Cuba

The website CiberCuba.com closed the week of January 3 to January 9 with 3.28 million page views, an increase of 30% compared to the previous period. During those days, the Cuban regime attempted to block access to the outlet several times, but the technical team of CiberCuba, which operates an advanced proxy and distribution system, managed to restore access almost immediately, mitigating up to four consecutive blocks between January 3 and January 4.

Despite these attacks, traffic from Cuba remained high and the total audience of the website solidified its position as one of the largest among independent Spanish-speaking digital media.

The WhatsApp channel: a direct bridge to the Cubans

The official CiberCuba channel on WhatsApp experienced steady growth over the past month, reaching 222,753 active followers as of January 8, an increase of 16% in 30 days. In total, the channel reached 259,940 accounts, of which 99% are located in Cuba.

With over 30,000 net new followers during the period and nearly total reach across the country, WhatsApp has established itself as the primary direct channel for accessing independent information for Cubans on the Island, circumventing official censorship and information manipulation.

Growth on X (formerly Twitter) and Threads

In X (formerly Twitter), CiberCuba registered an increase of 43% in impressions and 63% in interactions, with a rise of 110% in "likes" and 358% in reposts during the week of January 3 to 9. 36% of the audience comes from the United States, 28% from Cuba, and 7% from Spain, reflecting the strength of the Cuban diaspora community.

In Threads, the official account posted 572 entries that garnered 1.5 million views (+156%) in the same week and added 559 new followers (+42%).

A consolidated leadership

The cross-platform performance of CiberCuba during the first week of January 2026 reflects its consolidation as a leading international outlet on Cuban and Venezuelan issues, combining reach, credibility, and a constant presence in digital environments.

Despite the attempts at censorship in Cuba, the outlet has strengthened its connection with the audience both inside and outside the Island, reaffirming its commitment to independent journalism and the freedom of information.

Additionally, CiberCuba Noticias already has a verified profile on Google Discover, available only for high-relevance digital media. This profile brings together all the platforms of the outlet and counts a total of 5.89 million followers, including 4.7 million on Facebook, 510,000 on Instagram, 391,000 on YouTube, 231,000 on X (Twitter), and 43,700 on TikTok.

The coverage of Nicolás Maduro's capture not only marked a global informational milestone but also the highest point of visibility and digital recognition in the history of CiberCuba.
