The renowned actress María Teresa Pina, who has been living in the United States for several years, issued a powerful statement regarding the reality in Cuba, denouncing what she considers a systematic process of human, social, and cultural destruction that has affected entire generations of Cubans.

His words, given in an interview for the space "La Familia Cubana", depict a country that has undergone deep deterioration, the effects of which do not even end with emigration.

"They are cynically and cruelly destroying a people. I find it very terrible that the whole world knows about it and remains silent," he stated.

Pina described the situation on the Island as a slow but steady process of human erosion, in which people have been progressively stripped of their ability for personal fulfillment, their social identity, and their future prospects.

For the actress, it is not just about material hardships, but about a deeper harm that has permeated the way millions of Cubans think, relate to one another, and live.

Those scars, caused by decades of precariousness, control, and lies, cannot be erased simply by moving to another country, even if it offers freedom and good living conditions.

In their experience, many Cubans who emigrate carry with them behavioral patterns, fears, dependencies, and resignations that prevent them from fully adapting to societies that offer them new opportunities.

"People who have that damage will live with it as long as they live. In fact, there are many people here with the same damage who arrive and are unable to adapt to the society that is welcoming them. Because the damage they carry is so strong that they want to have what they had there, along with everything that exists here," he detailed.

The artist lamented that a reality widely known outside of Cuba continues to be surrounded by silence, both internationally and within the country itself.

He particularly criticized that figures and citizens who are directly aware of this situation choose not to speak out, thus contributing to the normalization of a deterioration that, in his opinion, affects the dignity and very essence of the people.

"I find it terrible that in Cuba, people who do the same thing are silent. I understand their silence, but if you’re not going to say anything, then leave! Don’t try to be relevant! What’s happening in Cuba is terrible. And any self-respecting Cuban must feel pain and anger knowing that your people are being killed gradually," he stressed.

María Teresa Pina is a well-known figure among the Cuban public for her performances in telenovelas such as "El eco de las piedras," "A pesar de todo," and "El balcón de los helechos," productions that marked national television for years.

Her career has given her a voice recognized both inside and outside the Island.

In November 2023, she resumed her television career in Miami alongside actor Armando Tomey in the series "Crime in Miami", produced by Pronyr TV.

In one episode, they both played a Cuban couple facing the consequences of getting involved in a business reliant on the influence of a former government security official, a plot that reflected family tensions and ethical dilemmas associated with power and corruption.

The strength of her statements positions her not just as an artist with opinions, but as a voice that denounces the human cost of a system that, according to her experience and conviction, has left deep and lasting scars on the lives of millions of Cubans.
