The US dollar is trading today at 490 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market, according to the rate published by elTOQUE.
The US dollar rose by two pesos in value compared to the previous day. It is the most sought-after currency among Cubans, especially by those who rely on remittances or seek to purchase imported goods. Its exchange rate reflects the ongoing devaluation of the peso and the scarcity of foreign currency on the island.
The euro reaches a value of 525 CUP this Monday, solidifying its position as the most expensive currency in the parallel market. The difference of 35 pesos compared to the dollar confirms the preference of many Cubans to keep savings in the European currency, which is regarded as more stable against fluctuations in the international market.
For its part, the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) remains at 400 CUP, showing slight stability after weeks of fluctuations. Although its use is digital, it continues to be key for accessing basic products in stores controlled by the regime.
