The Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis expressed her support for the resolution presented by Mayor Vince Lago during a Coral Gables Commission meeting and thanked him for his leadership on the issue.

“This resolution sends a clear message: our community stands with the Cuban people, not with the dictatorship,” stated Milian in his speech.

In her statement published on X, the commissioner noted that “no U.S. authorization should be used to enrich a communist regime that imprisons dissidents and denies basic freedoms,” and emphasized that “sanctions must be enforced and legal loopholes must be closed.”

During his intervention at the meeting, Milian explained that the resolution aims to prevent the Cuban regime from using U.S. authorizations to move vehicles, machinery, and other goods while continuing to repress the population.

"None of the U.S. licenses should be enriching a communist dictatorship 90 miles from our shores. Sanctions must make sense and should be enforced," he said.

The commissioner also indicated that the measure is in line with the projects that require proof of authorization from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) before any transaction subject to sanctions.

Milian recalled that he presented similar legislation to the Miami-Dade County Commission, where it was unanimously approved last week.

"Miami-Dade County and Coral Gables are sending the same message: sanctions must be enforced, gaps must be closed, and our community stands firmly on the side of freedom," he concluded.
