So far, the informal currency market in Cuba remains calm, despite the influx of recent developments that have increased pressure on the regime.

So far, the informal currency market in Cuba has not reacted to the announcement made this Thursday by the government of Donald Trump to impose tariffs on countries that supply oil to the island.

No movements have occurred despite the formal request from congress members from South Florida to urge the Trump Administration to end regular flights to Cuba and the sending of remittances, a measure that, if implemented, would significantly impact the flow of foreign currency in the country.

Beyond expectations, the fact is that for the fourth consecutive day, the three reference currencies in Cuba have not reported any movement in their selling prices.

Exchange Rate Evolution

At 10:00 a.m. on this January 30, the dollar holds at 485 CUP that it reached on Monday, according to the daily report from the independent media elTOQUE.

Also unchanged is the euro, which is once again trading at 530 CUP today. The European currency has remained stable for nine days in its average selling value.

The Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), for its part, is currently held at 400 CUP.

Exchange rate today 01/30/2026 - 7:23 a.m. in Cuba:

Dollar exchange rate USD to CUP according to elTOQUE: 485 CUP.

Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP according to elTOQUE: 530 CUP.

Exchange rate of MLC to CUP according to elTOQUE: 400 CUP.

According to the models from the Observatory of Currencies and Finances of Cuba (OMFi) -released earlier this month- the projections for January anticipated an upward trend:

Dollar: central projection of 465 CUP (range between 454 and 480 CUP).

Euro: projection of 505 CUP (range between 479 and 515 CUP).

MLC: estimated at around 427 CUP (ranging between 398 and 440 CUP).

Approaching the end of the month, the current values of the two main currencies - with the dollar valued at 485 CUP and the euro at 530 CUP - reveal that both currencies exceeded expectations, while the Freely Convertible Currency is significantly below what the OMFi predicted.

Such a scenario reinforces the perception of a market under pressure due to the uncertainty and mistrust that the Cuban peso continues to generate.
