Authorities and weather reports warned of an increase in wave activity along the northern coast of western Cuba and a higher likelihood of coastal flooding in Havana, as a cold front moves in, bringing northwest winds and waves that could reach up to 4 meters.
According to an update issued by the Government of Havana, the frontal band is now moving through the west, with an increase in cloudiness and the possibility of showers and light rain, while it continues its advance eastward.
In that scenario, an increase in northwestern winds and swells that could become strong is expected.
The Insmet (Center for Forecasts) forecasts the possibility of waves of up to four meters.
Additionally, it is warned that in the Havana seafront, “the waves are already intensifying” and that in the coming hours they could become strong, coinciding with a high tide at 8 p.m., which “significantly increases” the likelihood of coastal flooding.
As part of the announced guidelines, those living in low-lying areas were urged to protect themselves and take preventive measures: secure drinking water, move motors or water pumps to safe locations, elevate resources, prepare documents, medications, and essential items in case of a potential evacuation, stay informed, and follow the authorities' instructions, with an emphasis on assisting vulnerable individuals.

The National General Staff of Civil Defense of Cuba issued a "Early Warning Notice" due to the deterioration of weather conditions in the western part of the country, with the arrival of a new cold front that will intensify the already existing winter conditions.
The weather event will cause remarkably cold mornings, as well as tidal waves and coastal flooding in low-lying areas of the northwestern coast, including the Havana waterfront.
According to the information cited by the Civil Defense, coming from the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology, during the passage of the cold front, there will be an increase in -clouds with showers and rain, which will extend across the rest of the national territory, while behind the front, a dry and very cold air mass will advance, intensifying the thermal drop.
The notice warns that in the coming hours the cold front will reach the western region, bringing increased cloudiness, with showers and rains that will then extend to the rest of the country; the arrival of a new mass of dry and very cold air will strengthen the winter atmosphere and create notably cold mornings, along with strong swells causing coastal flooding ranging from light to moderate in low-lying areas of the northwestern coast, with waves between three and four meters, including the Havana seawall.
Civil Defense advised the public to stay informed through national media and official profiles on social media.
On the other hand, he urged compliance with the indications from local authorities and Civil Defense "in a disciplined manner."
The notice itself suggests specific measures: dress warmly and protect children and the elderly; avoid staying in low-lying areas along the northern coast; do not travel through flooded zones; and follow official guidelines.
