The Embassy of Spain in Cuba issued a statement this Sunday through its official account on X (@EmbEspCuba), in which it warned about the repercussions of the recent international restrictions on oil exports to the island, amid the growing energy crisis affecting the country.

The Spanish diplomatic mission pointed out that the measures “will have repercussions in the logistical field, in the transport sector, and in the supply chain,” an unusual acknowledgment of the rapid deterioration facing Cuban infrastructure following the tightening of sanctions driven by Washington.

In addition, the diplomatic mission added that it is conducting “detailed monitoring, along with the Consulate General,” regarding the evolution of the situation and assured that it will keep Spanish citizens residing or passing through the island informed about any relevant developments.

The embassy also urged travelers and Spanish residents to consult the Travel Recommendations from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, available on the portal exteriores.gob.es, which are “periodically updated.”

The message comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tension in the Caribbean, following the collapse of crude oil supplies from Venezuela and Mexico to Cuba, and the intensification of U.S. pressures on the regime of Miguel Díaz-Canel.

The administration of Donald Trump, supported by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has intensified the energy blockade against Havana as part of its strategy to hasten the end of the Castro regime.

The warning from the Spanish embassy coincides with recent reports indicating that several diplomatic missions and foreign companies in Cuba are reviewing their contingency and evacuation plans in light of a potential worsening of the internal crisis.

The statement from the Spanish Foreign Ministry reflects the growing concern of European countries regarding the economic and logistical collapse on the island, where blackouts, fuel shortages, and transportation paralysis have reached critical levels.
