The Cuban content creator Karina Elizabeth Sánchez Rodríguez (@kary_y_jony) shared on social media a video from the day she left Cuba, accompanied by a recent excerpt from a speech by Miguel Díaz-Canel about youth and the continuation of the political system on the Island.
In the video, the leader is heard stating: “Those young people who are facing the complex situations of these times, the hardships, and see that their life projects are not what they aspire to, but still maintain hope, because they know that this project is more achievable in Cuba than anywhere else.”
As those words are played, the images show a long line of young Cubans waiting in a hallway at Havana Airport, preparing to leave the country.
Sánchez Rodríguez ends the audiovisual with a laugh, in a gesture that many have interpreted as an ironic reaction to the president's statements.
The scene contrasts the official narrative about opportunities within Cuba with the reality faced by thousands of young people who, overwhelmed by scarcity, low wages, political repression, and a lack of prospects, choose to emigrate in search of better living conditions.
The video has sparked numerous reactions on social media, where users are debating the disconnect between political rhetoric and the daily experiences of Cuban youth.
