The Cuban content creator Mileydi, known on social media as @madre_sinfiltrosencuba, captured the attention of thousands of users after sharing what she herself describes as a “third-world trick” for brewing coffee during the frequent power outages on the Island.

In a recent video, the influencer explains step by step how she prepares coffee when there is no electricity. She uses four lit candles on a plate inside the sink and places the gas stove burner on top of them. She carefully adjusts the setup so that the flames concentrate directly under the coffee pot. The combined heat from the candles not only allows her to brew coffee but also to heat milk or prepare something simple.

The scene, which may appear improvised to many, reflects a daily reality for thousands of Cubans experiencing long power outages. Domestic ingenuity has become a fundamental tool for survival in the face of energy shortages.

The video generated numerous reactions. Some users highlighted the creativity and resourcefulness of the Cuban, while others lamented that life in the country has come down to finding solutions just to survive.

There were also those who warned about the cost of candles and suggested reusing the melted wax to make new ones. Coffee remains a ritual that few are willing to give up, even amidst the crisis.
