Mourning at the Central University of Las Villas for a professor

The Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas announced the passing of the emeritus professor Alberto Casiano Averhoff Casamayor (Tico) at the age of 85.

Averhoff Casamayor devoted “more than four decades of his life to teaching and research, specializing in topics of cooperativism, national economic planning, and business economics,” reads the obituary published on the institution's Facebook.

It also highlights that the deceased received numerous awards for his “dedication and commitment,” such as “the Literacy Medals, the Fight Against Bandits Medal, the Commemorative Medal for the 40th Anniversary of the FAR, the Cuban Education Medal, the José Tey Medal, as well as the Frank País Order of the second degree.”

In addition to being a professor, the deceased held positions within the control structures of the Cuban regime: “he was the Organization Secretary of Base Section 17-06 of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution and a founding member of the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba, always demonstrating an exemplary attitude of service and revolutionary commitment.”

"His legacy will live on in the university community and in all those who had the privilege of learning from him,” the note concludes.

In the comments, dozens of students and professors expressed their condolences to the family and lamented the passing of the experienced teacher.
