Miami International Airport (MIA) was named the worst in the world for lost luggage.
According to an assessment by the California packaging company Arka, MIA loses approximately 306 bags for every million flights, which amounts to about 5.5 bags for every 1,000 passengers.

During the announcement of the record figures, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava emphasized the progress of the ambitious $9 billion airport modernization plan.
This project, designed to enhance the passenger experience and ensure operational efficiency, has successfully revamped so far:
-33 transport units (including escalators, elevators, and moving walkways).
-48 completely remodeled bathrooms.
-32 boarding bridges, two of which are equipped with energy-efficient glass technology.
Currently, 95% of the 616 transport units at the airport are operational, compared to 85% last year.
It is expected that, by the end of this year, 30 additional units will be modernized.
New investments and future improvements
As part of the initiatives to enhance the facilities, the Miami-Dade authorities have allocated 1.7 billion dollars for areas that required urgent attention, such as elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and restrooms.
Among the most notable projects is the construction of a new garage with a capacity for 2,200 vehicles, as well as the hiring of 100 additional employees to strengthen the maintenance and passenger assistance team.
Miami-Dade Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera noted that there is still work ahead:
"There is still much to be done, but we are ensuring that the future is excellent for our passengers."
