A homing pigeon identified as coming from Cuba was found in Panama City, Florida, after crossing the sea to reach U.S. territory, according to images shared on social media.
The video was shared on Facebook by Rickee Estrada, who showed the bird walking down a street and then focused on the rings it was wearing on its legs, where a code can be seen that corresponds to a pigeon registered in Cuba.
In the images, the animal appears to be tired, while a person checks the identification rings to confirm its origin.
The video showed the bird initially walking on the street and later being held in someone's hands, where it was examined closely.
In the text accompanying the video, Estrada commented that it was a "Cuban messenger pigeon" that had flown to the United States, and noted that the discovery took place in Panama City.
In another subsequent post, the user recounted that a Cuban in the area approached the bird and noticed that it had identification rings from Cuba and a chip when he took it.
According to the explanation, the young man noticed that the dove was tired and had a slightly bare spot on its underside, although it generally seemed healthy after the long journey.
Estrada also indicated that they are trying to locate the owner of the animal to put them in touch with the person who found it, although he remarked ironically that perhaps the bird has no intentions of returning to the island.
In 2024, a resident of the municipality of Motul, in the state of Yucatán, Mexico, encountered an unexpected visitor in their yard: a carrier pigeon with a Cuban identification ring, which apparently had traveled over 2,000 kilometers to arrive there.
The Mexican, intrigued by the bird, immediately offered it water and food, but it was what he found on the dove's feet that sparked his curiosity.
The pigeon was wearing two rings, one yellow and one black, along with a small code inscribed on its left leg, accompanied by what appeared to be an identification microchip.
The most surprising thing was that one of the rings indicated that the dove came from Cuba and bore the date of 2024, which suggests that the messenger was in the midst of carrying out a mission.
Despite his curiosity, the neighbor chose not to interfere with the fate of the dove, hoping that the bird would continue its journey and deliver the message to its final destination.
