The mother of Ledián Padrón Guevara, one of the four individuals who died in the armed confrontation between a boat coming from Florida and the Cuban Border Guard on February 25, has reported that the authorities have not returned her son's body so she can bury him.

The journalist Mario J Pentón shared a brief video on his social media, featuring the young man's mother, Deysi Guevara Verdecia, crying and visibly distressed.

Unfortunately, Padrón Guevara was an only child, and his parents are deaf-mute, which adds a level of drama to the case.

According to Pentón -citing the mother as a source- the authorities informed them that they do not have fuel to transport the body to the eastern part of the country, the region where the family is from.

Instead, they were offered two alternatives: to cremate the body or to bury it in the province of Villa Clara.

The family of the deceased rejects both options and demands to be able to transfer the young man's remains to bid farewell to him in his hometown, as well as calling for an independent investigation to clarify what happened.

“The family demands an independent investigation and to reach the ultimate consequences,” concluded the journalist.

A total of four people died and six were injured in an armed confrontation with a border guard boat on the morning of February 25.

According to the official version, a speedboat registered in Florida was intercepted near Cayo Falcones, in the Villa Clara municipality of Corralillo, after entering Cuban territorial waters.

Authorities claim that gunfire was opened from the vessel against a Coast Guard unit, which triggered an exchange of shots.

According to the official narrative, the occupants of the boat were transporting assault rifles, handguns, incendiary devices, bulletproof vests, and camouflage uniforms, and they allegedly stated that they intended to enter the country with violent intentions.

While the Cuban government continues criminal proceedings against the survivors for offenses related to terrorism, the family of Ledián Padrón Guevara remains hopeful of recovering the young man's body for burial and wants to clearly understand what happened during the confrontation.
