A fire broke out this Thursday in a house located at 203 San Germán Street, between Rastro and Corona, in the heart of Santiago de Cuba, according to reports shared on social media by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta.
The images and testimonies shared by neighbors show strong flames coming from the house, causing alarm among residents of the area, one of the busiest in the city center.
According to comments from people present at the scene, no fatalities were reported, although several neighbors expressed concern about the material damage suffered by the affected family.

"Thank God no lives were lost," wrote a neighbor on social media after the incident.
Some residents pointed out that the fire may have originated from the use of charcoal or firewood for cooking, a practice that is becoming increasingly common in Cuba due to prolonged power outages and the shortage of domestic gas.
“Many people cook with firewood or charcoal and these accidents are caused,” commented another neighbor.
Other testimonies indicate that the fire started shortly after the power service in the area was interrupted, where, according to residents' complaints, there had only been around an hour and a half of electricity.
