A severe local storm caught residents of the municipality of Jagüey Grande, in the southern province of Matanzas, by surprise this Thursday, bringing hail, strong gusts of wind, and an impressive funnel cloud.

The startling images were shared by the Cuban meteorologist Osmany, known as Osmany El Tiempo on Facebook. In the video, the development of the storm can be seen as the sky darkens and the cloud takes shape over the rural area of the territory.

The phenomenon generated great concern among those who witnessed the event.

During the storm, there was also hail, a rare phenomenon in Cuba, accompanied by strong winds that raised dust and at times caused reduced visibility.

The video was sent by a resident of Jagüey Grande, identified as Carlos, who captured the moment the funnel cloud was forming as the storm approached.

Severe local storms often develop rapidly under conditions of strong atmospheric instability and can cause intense rainfall, hail, gusting winds, and, at times, the formation of funnel clouds or short-lived tornadoes.

So far, no significant damage has been reported, although the phenomenon attracted attention due to its intensity and the unusual images captured in the area.
