The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela announced on Thursday the reestablishment of diplomatic and consular relations with the United States following a process of diplomatic dialogue between both governments.

The announcement was made by Venezuelan Chancellor Yván Gil, who reported that the decision was reached after discussions between Washington authorities and the interim government led by Acting President Delcy Rodríguez.

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela announces that, following diplomatic dialogue established with the authorities of the United States of America, both governments have decided to restore their diplomatic and consular relations,” stated the official communiqué released by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

"The Bolivarian Government reaffirms its willingness to advance into a new stage of constructive dialogue, based on mutual respect, the sovereign equality of states, and cooperation among our peoples," the document states.

The decision comes just two months after the capture of former leader Nicolás Maduro during a U.S. military operation in Caracas and the start of a political transition process in the country.

The U.S. State Department alsoconfirmed the agreement and noted that the restoration of relations will facilitate joint efforts to stabilize Venezuela and support its economic recovery.

"This step will facilitate our efforts to promote stability, support economic recovery, and advance political reconciliation in Venezuela," the organization stated in a release.

Washington also reiterated that its goal is to support the Venezuelan people in a gradual process that creates the conditions for a peaceful transition to a democratically elected government.

The announcement comes after recent diplomatic contacts between both countries, including the visit to Caracas by officials from President Donald Trump's administration and meetings with representatives of the Venezuelan interim government.

During the week, interim president Delcy Rodríguez received the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, at the Miraflores Palace in a meeting focused on bilateral cooperation and the political transition process taking place in the South American country.

Diplomatic relations between Washington and Caracas had been severed since 2019, when Nicolás Maduro's government expelled U.S. diplomats after accusing the United States of interventionism.

The new agreement marks a turning point in the bilateral relationship and opens a new stage of political and economic cooperation between the two countries amid the process of institutional reorganization taking place in Venezuela.
