The chancellor of the Cuban regime Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla reported this Monday on a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi "to exchange opinions" about recent events.
“I had a phone conversation with the Iranian Foreign Minister to exchange views on the latest developments in the region and the consequences of the military aggression by the US and Israel against Iran,” he said on X.
Rodríguez Parrilla expressed "condolences for the assassination of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and for the hundreds of Iranian citizens, especially the girls from the Minab primary school."
However, the Cuban chancellor does not mention in his tweet the recent election of Mojtaba Jameneí, the son of the late leader, as the new supreme leader of the country.
"I reaffirmed the urgency of intensifying international efforts to stop the aggression, urging the Security Council and the General Assembly of the UN to fulfill their responsibilities to restore and maintain international peace and security," Rodríguez added.
Last week, Rodríguez Parrilla, along with the leader Miguel Díaz-Canel and the Director General of Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX), Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernández, signed the condolence book opened at the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Havana following the death of the ayatollah.
Iran and Cuba have maintained close political and diplomatic relations for decades; however, in the face of increasing pressures on Havana, the Cuban leader expressed sorrow over the "murder" of Jamenei, labeling it an "execrable act" but refrained from mentioning the U.S.
