The Cuban regime's chancellor, Bruno Rodríguez, became affectionate on social media and highlighted the "special character" of the relations between Havana and Beijing following a phone conversation with China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi.

In X, Rodríguez spared no praise and reported that during the exchange, they reaffirmed their willingness to continue strengthening bilateral ties and to advance the agreements reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel.

"I had a cordial telephone conversation with my colleague Wang Yi, the Chancellor of China and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China," wrote the head of Cuban diplomacy as he spoke on behalf of a regime that is desperately seeking "historical" allies.

The official also thanked Beijing for its offers of assistance and statements of support for the island.

According to him, those gestures "reaffirm the special nature of the historical ties between both socialist countries."

The conversation also included an exchange about the regional and international context, as well as the necessity to defend peace, international law, and sovereignty.

The rapprochement with China occurs amid the deep economic crisis that Cuba is experiencing and while the regime seeks political and financial support from international allies in the face of pressures from the United States.

In this context, Havana, much like a pet in need of affection, has intensified its rhetoric of alignment with Beijing, one of its main political and economic partners, to which the Cuban government increasingly turns for support and cooperation.

Also on Thursday, Rodríguez Parrilla informed that he held telephone conversations with the foreign minister of Russia.

In the midst of the deep economic crisis the island is experiencing, the government insists on seeking political and economic support from its international allies.
