The Cuban Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) warned this Sunday that a cold front will approach the western part of the country starting Monday night, March 16, and will begin to affect the national territory during the early hours of Tuesday, March 17, leading to a significant increase in rainfall.
According to the official forecast, shared on the institution's Facebook page, the rainfall may be heavy and even locally intense in various regions of the country.
The frontal system will slowly move across the archipelago and is expected to remain nearly stationary over the central region, which will extend the weather instability for several days.
The presence of high relative humidity values at different levels of the troposphere will contribute to maintaining cloudy skies and frequent rains over much of the island, especially between March 17 and March 20.
According to Insmet, the highest rainfall accumulations could be recorded in areas of the northern part of the country.
Conditions are expected to begin improving around Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, when a trend towards reduced rainfall is anticipated, although some rain may persist in the easternmost regions.
The agency also indicated that temperatures will decrease due to the arrival of a continental air mass, combined with persistent cloudiness and precipitation, resulting in cooler days.
