The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that Cuba is interested in reaching an agreement with Washington and assured that his administration expects progress in this regard in the near term.
During statements to the press, the president indicated that his government is in discussions with Havana regarding the situation on the island.
"Cuba also wants to reach an agreement, and I believe that very soon we will either come to an agreement or do what we have to do," expressed Trump, who again insisted on this type of threat against the regime, a rhetoric he has employed quite frequently in recent months.
The president added that many Cubans in exile have been waiting for decades for changes on the island.
"We have many excellent people from Cuba who were violently and cruelly expelled from the country, and worse still, their families were murdered," he emphasized.
He reported that during his departure from Palm Beach, he saw thousands of people on the road, including Cubans and Venezuelans, waving flags of their countries and of the United States.
Trump asserted that these expressions of support reflect the expectations of many exiles regarding potential changes in Cuba.
The leader reiterated that his government is assessing the next steps regarding the island and stated that there could be developments in the near future.
