The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that his administration is holding conversations with Cuba, although he emphasized that his government will focus on the situation with Iran before fully addressing the case of the island.

During statements to the press, the president explained that Washington is already in dialogue with Havana, but made it clear that other international issues are currently taking precedence on the agenda.

We are talking to Cuba, but we will take care of Iran before we take care of Cuba,” said Trump.

The president also stated that he hopes for progress regarding the island in the near future and noted that many Cubans in exile have been waiting for decades for changes in their country.

Trump also recounted that during his departure from Palm Beach, he saw thousands of people on the road, including Cubans and Venezuelans, waving flags of their countries and the United States.

According to the president, these expressions of support reflect the expectations from the exile community for transformations to take place in Cuba in the near future.

Cuba has begun to emerge as a less risky strategic front for Washington than the conflict with Iran, as the administration of President Donald Trump evaluates different scenarios for foreign policy.

According to an opinion article published by ABC and signed by José M. de Areilza, Trump himself has spoken of a possible “friendly takeover of Cuba,” a formula that, in his view, could be politically more profitable and less dangerous than a military escalation in the Middle East.
