A group of young Cubans staged a pot-banging protest early Tuesday morning amid a blackout in Centro Habana, despite the police monitoring the area.

The incident occurred this Monday at the corner of Salud and Belascoaín, where several neighbors took advantage of the darkness caused by the power outage to bang pots and express their dissatisfaction.

According to the images circulated by Cubanet, the participants carried out the "cacerolazo" while agents of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) stood on the sidewalks without intervening directly.

Social media users pointed out that young people took advantage of the lack of lighting to evade police surveillance, in a context where protests are often quickly suppressed by the authorities.

The incident occurs amidst prolonged blackouts, food shortages, and a deep economic crisis, factors that have increased expressions of discontent in various areas of the country.

In recent months, pot-banging has become a recurring form of protest in Cuba, where just three days ago, dozens of Cubans took to the streets and burned the furniture of the Communist Party headquarters in Morón, Ciego de Ávila.
