A new round of protests was reported on the night of this Thursday in Havana, this time near Esquina de Toyo, where residents took to the streets to demonstrate despite a strong police presence and the fact that electricity service had reportedly been restored in the area.
“Right now, near the Toyo Corner, there is a tremendous pot-banging demonstration. There are patrols and black berets, as there are concerns that the situation might escalate into a larger protest,” reports the post on Facebook by the activist Yamilka Lafita, known as Lara Crofs.
According to reports spread on social media, there was a strong police presence along with the so-called "black berets," which has raised concerns among residents about the possibility of the situation escalating in that area.
Shared images show several dozen people near the famous corner of the 10 de Octubre municipality, one of the most active during the historic protests of July 11, 2021.
This new episode occurs as a continuation of the cacerolazos reported hours earlier in other neighborhoods of the capital, such as Lawton and Alamar, where protests were also reported due to the prolonged blackouts and the energy crisis facing the country.
There are also reports of pot-banging in the Tamarindo area, in Santos Suárez, but the information has not been confirmed.
Even though in some cases electricity service has been restored, the protests demonstrate that social discontent persists, driven not only by the lack of electricity but also by the general decline in living conditions.
So far, there is no official confirmation regarding these events, which add to a day marked by multiple expressions of protest in various locations across Havana.
