A strong protest and bonfires in the street were reported in the early hours of Friday in the Santos Suárez neighborhood, located in the 10 de Octubre municipality of Havana, despite the police presence in the area.
According to videos circulating on Facebook, among the multiple midnight demonstrations, one of the main focal points was recorded in the Santo Suárez neighborhood, specifically at Santa Irene and Calzada de Diez de Octubre, where residents took to the streets banging pots and pans.
The protesters set fires in the middle of the road, causing a complete halt to traffic in the area.
In parallel, apot banging was also reported in the vicinity of La Esquina de Toyo, one of the most active locations during the protests of July 11, 2021.
Witnesses report the presence of police patrols and members of the so-called "black berets," which has raised concerns among the residents.
"Right now near the Esquina de Toyo, there is a huge pot-banging protest. There are patrols and black berets, and there are fears that the situation may escalate into a larger demonstration," noted activist Yamilka Lafita, known as Lara Crofs, on Facebook.
Images shared on social media show dozens of people gathered in the area, despite the deployment of repressive forces.
These events occur following other protests reported a few hours earlier in neighborhoods such as Lawton and Alamar. There have also been reports from Tamarindo in Santos Suárez, although these have not been independently verified.
Although electricity service has been restored in some areas, the protests highlight that social discontent goes beyond the outages, driven by the economic crisis and the widespread hardship faced by the population.
So far, the authorities have not provided an official statement regarding these incidents, which add to a day marked by multiple expressions of discontent in the Cuban capital.
