The regulated sale of beans has begun in municipalities of Matanzas as part of the local self-sufficiency strategy promoted by the authorities, with limited quantities determined by the size of each household. This initiative is presented by the regime as an "achievement" on social media.

According to information published by the newspaper Girón on its Facebook page, the sale is organized by consumers: households with up to three people can purchase two pounds, while those with four or more members are entitled to four pounds, at a price of 280 pesos (CUP) per pound.

The price, although more affordable than what the private sector imposes, is still far from reachable for households with tight budgets, especially for retirees.

The product is distributed at designated points in urban areas and communities, with payment made digitally, while the stores inform the public about sale days based on availability.

The measure is based on the local production of cooperatives and farmers, in an effort to ensure access to a basic food item and reduce dependence on external supplies.

However, the high price of beans poses a challenge for many families, in a context marked by low wages, inflation, and difficulties in accessing essential products on the island.

In this regard, the Cuban regime began to sell nationally produced beans at 285 Cuban pesos (CUP) per pound in the municipality of Güira de Melena, Artemisa, amid the ongoing food supply crisis in the country.

According to information released by local authorities, the product will be distributed gradually with an initial allocation of two pounds per household.

The sale is conducted under state control to limit the quantity per buyer and is implemented in warehouses in various areas of the municipality.
