Suddenly, I have opened my eyes.

I suddenly realized that Cuba, as Marxlenin says, is the freest country in the world.

Statements by Marxlenin Pérez Valdéz

And I didn't know it. I didn't understand it. The media war had me deceived

Perhaps because, with my limited mind, I had come to the idea that to be free one must be able to choose.

Choose a president, choose a party, choose what to do, what to say, what to read, what to eat.

A mistake.

Suddenly, I understood that in capitalism, people live enslaved by their decisions. They have to think, compare, make mistakes, and face the consequences. They are prisoners of their own choices.

Too much responsibility.

In Cuba, on the other hand, everything is much simpler, more relaxed, easier... more free.

There’s no need to make choices because they have already been made for you.

They have already chosen the only party, the president, the only newspaper... or the toilet paper.

They have already chosen the blackout schedule, what you are going to eat, and whether you will eat.

They have already decided whether you will be studying Russian or Chinese at school, as well as what you can watch on TV and the news that matters.

Everything is simpler, without confusion, without stress, without dilemmas... more free

It doesn't matter if those making the decisions are incompetent, selfish, or abusive. It doesn't matter if the country sinks into misery.

Because in the end, there is always the consolation: it wasn't your decision.

They choose for us and we accept it. Those who make the decisions are responsible for everything. They have us living in hunger, without electricity, without medicine, without hospitals, yet we still allow them to keep deciding.

Because it's more comfortable. Because it's simpler.

Because, as Marxlenin would say, that is being more free.
