The Ministry of Higher Education (MES) of Cuba ensured that all young people aspiring to higher education this year will have a university placement, as stated by René Sánchez Díaz, Director of Admissions and Employment Placement of the agency, who also announced the postponement of the entrance exams from May to June 2026.

The new dates for the regular call are on June fifth for Mathematics, June ninth for Spanish and June twelfth for Cuban History, with the exams taking place on the same day and time in all provinces of the country.

In his statements to national television, the official noted that a total of 96,305 positions have been made available for the 2026-2027 school year, in a context where this flexible access policy responds to a trend that the regime has been applying in recent years to maintain university enrollment.

The announcement comes amid growing tensions in the Cuban educational system, which recently became the setting for protests by over forty university students demanding solutions regarding the deterioration of academic and material conditions.

Low academic results also weigh on the admission process. In recent years, in Guantánamo, more than half failed Mathematics in the entrance exams, highlighting the deep deficiencies of the Cuban pre-university system. In addition, there is a deficit of about 24,000 teachers nationwide that compromises the preparation of the candidates.

"All young people aspiring to higher education this year will have a place at the university. It is a significant effort. Everyone knows the conditions we are living under; however, the State guarantees that there is a spot for every young person who seeks a place at the university," stated Sánchez Díaz.
