A 15-second video recorded at Playa Baracoa, Artemisa, has sparked a wave of reactions on social media after showing the catch of a large tuna that amazed those who witnessed the scene.
The clip, posted on Facebook by user Remmer Maqueira with the title “Today in Playa Baracoa,” surpassed one million views in just a few days and generated thousands of reactions and comments, becoming one of the most discussed pieces of content among Cubans both on and off the island.
The images capture the moment when several men try to pull the fish out of the water while cheers can be heard. The only clearly audible phrase in the video summarizes the tension of the moment: “Come on, come on, lift it up!”
Beyond the visual impact, the event sparked a flood of comments that mixed humor, disbelief, and criticism. Some users joked about the possibility of authorities intervening. “Let Raul find out,” wrote one internet user, triggering a chain of humorous responses about whether the fish would actually reach those who caught it.
Other comments mocked the economic situation and access to resources on the island. "Now they reach the shore and (Díaz) Canel takes them away," noted one user, while another added sarcastically, "That's government property; they raised them in the ocean's fry."
There was also room for doubt and skepticism. Some questioned the authenticity of the images or the manner in which the capture was made, wondering if it wouldn't have been simpler to drag the fish to the shore, or even suggesting, in a humorous tone, that it could be an artificial object.
In parallel, several comments reflected a more practical or everyday perspective: from those who celebrated the possible "party" that would follow the capture, to those who recommended quickly distributing the meat. “If I were you, I would chop it up and share it among everyone... you know why,” warned one user, alluding to potential complications later on.
The video, short yet filled with symbolism for many, ended up becoming not just an unusual fishing scene, but a space where Cubans express, amidst laughter and criticism, a part of their daily reality.
