Cuban-American congressman Carlos Giménez thanked Secretary of State Marco Rubio and delivered a strong message against the Cuban regime, stating that it "must be annihilated" and sent "to the dumpster of history."
Through a message on the social media platform X, the legislator reacted to recent statements by Rubio regarding the situation on the island, reinforcing the hardline rhetoric that has characterized Washington's policy towards Havana in recent months.
"The regime in Cuba must be obliterated and relegated to the dustbin of history. Thank you, Secretary Marco Rubio," wrote Giménez in a statement that reflects the support from segments of Congress for the actions of the current U.S. administration.
The congressman's words come after Rubio stated on Fox News that the Cuban regime is facing serious difficulties and that the administration of President Donald Trump is preparing changes in its policy toward the island in the short term.
The Secretary of State has insisted that the Cuban system is unable to sustain itself, while directly pointing out the ruling elite for their inability to address the deep economic and social crisis the country is facing.
In recent statements, Rubio emphasized that it is not possible to improve the Cuban economy without transforming the political system, arguing that the current model does not work and lacks a real basis to attract investment or generate growth.
It has also made clear that Washington has no incentives to yield to the regime, emphasizing that the United States does not depend on Cuba, whereas the island urgently needs changes to emerge from its structural crisis.
The economic context reinforces this scenario. Recent projections indicate a contraction of the Gross Domestic Product by 7.2% in 2026, which would place Cuba in one of its worst moments since the Special Period, characterized by shortages, blackouts, and a widespread decline in living conditions.
In parallel, the regime has attempted to promote alternatives such as a limited opening to foreign investment, including proposals aimed at Cuban-Americans and models inspired by economies like China, initiatives that have been rejected by Washington as insufficient without meaningful political change.
In this scenario, figures like Carlos Giménez are reinforcing from Congress the call to expedite the end of the Cuban regime and to promote a democratic transition, aligning with the strategy led by Rubio and President Trump.
