Agents from the Special Operations Detachment of the Miami Sector of the United States Border Patrol, in coordination with the Dania Beach Station, arrested a Cuban national with a prior conviction for drug trafficking and a final deportation order issued in 2020 on Friday.
The announcement was made by Samuel B. Briggs II, Acting Chief Agent of the Miami Sector, via his official account on the social media platform X, where he posted a police image of the detainee with the labels "Drug Trafficker" and "Arrested".
This arrest adds to a series of recent operations against immigrants with criminal records in South Florida. The Tidal Wave Operation in Key Largo resulted in the arrest of 15 undocumented immigrants, further demonstrating the increase in the actions taken by immigration authorities in the region.
In the context of this same intensification of operations, the United States deported two Cubans with extensive criminal histories, highlighting the priority that authorities give to cases involving foreigners with prior criminal convictions.
The Border Patrol has maintained an active presence in the Florida Keys, where agents from the Marathon station arrested seven foreigners in a separate operation, reflecting the extent of immigration control efforts throughout the southern part of the state.
The context is broad: it is estimated that more than 42,000 Cubans are subject to deportation in the United States, a figure that underscores the magnitude of the challenge faced by both immigration authorities and the Cuban community in the country.
