Dionisio Manuel Oliva, a 42-year-old Cuban resident of Miami-Dade, was arrested last Thursday after he attempted twice to force his way into the home of his ex-partner, steal a scooter, throw stones at her, and return armed with a machete.
Oliva and the woman had been in a romantic relationship for approximately two years before the incidents that took place on March 21 and 29 at a residence located on Southwest 126 Court, near 211th Street, in the south of Miami-Dade, according to a report from Local 10 News.
The first episode occurred when Oliva showed up at his ex-girlfriend's house under the pretext of retrieving a scooter that he claimed was his. When she asked him to leave and turned to close the door, he attempted to force his way in.
According to the arrest report, "the victim managed to close the door, which enraged the accused." Oliva then took stones and began throwing them at the house. One of them broke the kitchen window and fell to the floor. Before fleeing, he took the scooter from the property.
Eight days later, on March 29, Oliva returned to the residence. After insisting that they open the door and being ignored, he went to his vehicle and took out a machete. According to the police report, the accused used the weapon to attempt to break the door handle in multiple failed attempts, after which he fled the scene.
Each of the two episodes was captured on the surveillance cameras of the victim's residence.
The woman reported both incidents on March 30 to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Two agents conducted the preliminary investigation and elevated it to the General Investigations Unit. The victim positively identified Oliva through a photograph presented by the officers.
On April 3rd, at 7:50 PM, agents arrested Oliva at his home, located in the area of Southwest 112 Place and 222 Street. He was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was formally charged.
Oliva faces three charges: two for attempted armed burglary and one for launching a deadly projectile, referring to the rocks thrown at the residence. Under Florida law, both charges are classified as second-degree felonies, each carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
This case adds to a series of similar incidents involving Cubans residing in Miami-Dade. In December 2025, Néstor Ángel García, 51 years old, was arrested in Homestead for assaulting his ex-girlfriend after a two-year relationship. In February of the same year, Nelson Pérez Estrada appeared before the county criminal court for attempting to kidnap his ex-partner with a machete.
