A violent assault was reported around the Tropicana cabaret in Santiago de Cuba, where several individuals burst into food and beverage warehouses and managed to steal a significant amount of products.

According to a report by the social communicator Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on Facebook, those involved acted in an organized and swift manner, leaving practically two designated storage areas within the facility empty.

During the incident, a guard attempted to confront the assailants but was injured in one hand with a sharp object during the struggle, demonstrating the level of violence used.

Reports from the area also indicate thefts in nearby locations, including the theft of animals, which reinforces the perception of insecurity and potential simultaneous actions at different points.

The incident adds to other recent episodes that reflect the deterioration of security in the country amid the economic crisis and the shortage of basic goods.

In recent years, Cuba has experienced a climate of insecurity, particularly evident in areas of economic interest, and as a result of these thefts, .

In August of last year, for example, authorities arrested six men involved in the murder of a security guard and the near-fatal assault of another during a robbery at an agricultural cooperative in the Contramaestre municipality of Santiago de Cuba.

The Ministry of the Interior (Minint) announced in a statement published by the provincial newspaper that, on the night of Monday, August 4, unknown individuals broke into the Basic Cooperative Production Unit (UBPC) Fidel Domenech Rizo located in Pueblo Nuevo, in the municipality of Baire, with the aim of stealing sheep.

In January, the Provincial Court of Santiago de Cuba sentenced the individuals responsible for the murder of a custodian that took place in the town of Nuevo Mundo, in Dos Caminos, on June 13, 2024.
