A young motorcyclist was injured this Saturday after losing control of his vehicle on the avenue between Cuartel and San Gregorio, in the municipality of Guantánamo, according to a report on Facebook by a user who shared a video of the accident.

The driver was traveling east to west when he collided with the curb of the road separators, causing visible injuries. Witnesses claimed that the young man was speeding.

Emergency Medical Services and the Police immediately arrived at the scene and provided first aid before transferring him to the Provincial Hospital of Guantánamo, where his condition was reported as serious.

The incident adds to a series of traffic accidents that have affected the province in recent months. In September 2025, a 22-year-old man died after a bus collided with an electric motorcycle in the same province, and that same month eight people were injured, including a minor, in another accident in the city of Guantánamo.

In November 2025, two motorcyclists were injured in a collision in Yateras, one of them in serious condition. And in February 2025, a motorcyclist fatally struck an elderly man on the streets of Ahogados and Crombet, also in Guantánamo.

The pattern repeats throughout Cuba. According to data from the National Road Safety Commission, traffic accidents resulted in 750 deaths in Cuba during 2025, compared to 634 fatalities recorded in 2024, with a total of 7,538 incidents and 6,718 injuries for the year.

Motorcycles and mopeds were involved in 63% of accidents, and human factors—speeding, lack of attention, and disregard for traffic signals—were responsible for 72% of incidents.

An additional fact worsens the situation: 31% of drivers involved in accidents during 2025 lacked a driver's license, according to official figures.

The rise of motorcycles as a means of transportation due to the shortage of fuel and the decline of public transport has increased the risk on Cuban roads, which are characterized by deteriorating infrastructure and sparse signage.
