Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of the former Venezuelan president detained in the United States, shared on his social media a video featuring images of his father allegedly recorded before his capture, showing him in a domestic setting alongside his wife Cilia Flores and their pets.
In the video, Nicolás Maduro is seen with his wife surrounded by Golden Retriever dogs in what appears to be a residential interior. While the "first combatant" is dressed in a pink Adidas tracksuit, the former Chavista leader is wearing the gray Nike Tech Fleece tracksuit that he wore in the first image released after his capture.
Maduro Guerra disseminated the video in early March, more than two months after the capture of his father and stepmother, which occurred in the early hours of January 3, 2026, in Caracas during the U.S. operation called "Absolute Resolution."
Maduro was detained around 03:30 local time at Fuerte Tiuna, transported by helicopter to a U.S. warship, and subsequently taken to New York, where he appeared in court on January 5, 2026 and was held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on charges that include narco-terrorism, cocaine trafficking, possession of machine guns, and conspiracy to possess weapons of war.
Since then, Maduro Guerra has become the public voice of the family through social media. On January 4, 2026, he broke the silence with an audio message in which he appeared "calm" and called for chavista mobilization, warning: "History will tell who the traitors were." On February 3, he published a message about “one month without dad,” which sparked mockery and celebrations on social media.
In May 2026, Maduro Guerra granted an interview to El País in which he recounted the early hours of the operation, and another to the German weekly Der Spiegel in which he admitted that Chavismo committed "excesses" for which "we must ask for forgiveness," mentioning political prisoners tortured under false charges.
The judicial process against the ex-dictator continues in New York, where a second hearing against Maduro was held on March 26, and in April, a new legal setback for him and Cilia Flores was reported in the United States.
In recent days, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared aboard Air Force One wearing the same gray Nike Tech Fleece tracksuit that Maduro was wearing on the day of his capture, a gesture that did not go unnoticed on social media.
