Gente de Zona and Marc Anthony brought the Kaseya Center in Miami to life this weekend with a performance of "La Gozadera" that became one of the most celebrated moments of the benefit concert organized to raise funds for the victims of the earthquakes that devastated Venezuela and Colombia.
The event, broadcast simultaneously by TelevisaUnivision and iHeartLatino, brought together more than 30 Latino artists in a show with 100% of advertising revenue directed towards humanitarian aid.
The Cuban duo, formed by Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom, joined the benefit concert with a message of solidarity that moved the audience present and those who followed the broadcast from home.
“I’m super happy to be here; I believe it’s a moment for us to come together, a moment to put our hands on our hearts,” Alexander declared before the VixMusica cameras.
The duo was clear about the scope of the initiative: "We know that this does not solve all problems, but we ask everyone to come together as one voice to help all the families who are suffering the consequences of this disaster."
Randy Malcom also emphasized the bond that connects them to the affected countries: "We feel very connected to these two peoples, Colombia and Venezuela. Whenever we can make a contribution, count on Gente de Zona; we will always be there."
The concert "United for Our People" was organized by TelevisaUnivision, CMN, Maestro Cares Foundation, and PIMIENTO Entertainment, featuring artists such as Chayanne, Feid, Luis Fonsi, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Olga Tañón, Silvestre Dangond, Camilo, Evaluna, among others. The hosts of the evening included Adamari López, Don Francisco, Dayanara Torres, and Mariana Atencio.
The event was born in response to two enormous disasters. The double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24 has already resulted in more than 6,300 deaths. To this tragedy was added the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit Colombia just a few days ago, leaving dozens dead, thousands injured, and hundreds missing.
Originally conceived as "United for Venezuela," the telethon expanded its cause to also include Colombian victims in light of the magnitude of this second disaster.
