A truck from Manzanillo, in the province of Granma, overturned this Wednesday on the National Highway of Cuba at approximately kilometer 50, according to reports by ARC Noticias on the Facebook group "BUS & TRUCK ACCIDENTS for more experience and fewer victims!".
The incident only caused material damage; there were no injuries. The crane operator who removed the vehicle from the road, Yosbany Castiñeira, confirmed the incident and explained in the comments of the post how it happened.
"There was no other vehicle involved; the driver wanted to move the car off the road to clear the way, and when he got out in that spot, due to the steep slope, it slowly tipped over. There were only material damages," he clarified.
Castiñeira also specified that it was a Renault truck and that he himself was the one who removed it with the tow truck.
The disseminated images show the large-tonnage vehicle overturned on its side on the pavement, with several people around it and no emergency units present.
The accident adds to a series of incidents reported on the National Highway during this 2026.
In mid-February, a Diana bus on the Havana-Oriente route collided near the Zaza bridge in Sancti Spíritus, resulting in four deaths and 17 injuries.
Three months later, a Jeep Willy veered off the road at kilometer 291, in Placetas, Villa Clara, resulting in two fatalities and a woman in critical condition.
Between these two events, a truck en route to Guantánamo overturned at kilometer 297 after falling into a hole in Villa Clara, and days later a Yutong bus on the Havana-Guantánamo route left 48 injured in Puentes de Las Cajas, Cienfuegos, with one subsequent fatality.
The deterioration of road infrastructure is a recurring factor in these incidents. Approximately 75% of Cuban roads are in fair or poor condition, according to news reports, and the country's vehicle fleet is decades old and poorly maintained.
The authorities, through the National Road Safety Commission, attribute between 72% and 74% of accidents to human factors, but independent media and citizens point out that potholes, unmarked slopes, and poor road conditions are direct triggers for multiple incidents on the highway.
Official data illustrates the magnitude of the problem: Cuba recorded 7,538 traffic accidents in 2025, with 750 fatalities and 6,718 injuries, and in just the first quarter of 2026, 1,234 incidents were reported, resulting in 153 deaths and 1,154 injuries.
