Two traffic accidents in Camagüey leave at least three people injured

Two traffic accidents left several injured on Monday on the Central Highway in Camagüey. A car collided with two bicycles, and a tanker truck struck an electric tricycle.

Two traffic accidents occurred in the morning hours of this Monday in the city of Camagüey, injuring three people, according to witness reports.

One of the incidents occurred around 6 in the morning, at the intersection of Martí street and the Central Highway, near the Las Carpas café, where a car and two bicycles collided, users of the Facebook group "Accidents Buses & Trucks for more experience and fewer victims!" specified.

The cause of the accident has not been clarified, although some users speculated that the bicycles may have invaded the path of the car, causing the collision.

As a result of the impact, the cyclists sustained injuries, reported Alexander Ríos Cruz. Both were bakers, and according to another individual, one of them may have died due to the injuries, a claim that has not been confirmed.

In another accident reported on the same Monday on the Central Highway, but in front of the old video room and near the Camagüey hotel, a tanker truck collided with an electric tricycle, and the driver of the latter sustained serious injuries.

A Facebook post by Jorge Luis Florat Adan mentioned that, allegedly, the tricycle driver was responsible for the collision by veering into the lane where the truck was traveling. According to the post, the injured person uses crutches to move around.

A note published on the "Reporte Cuba Ya" page indicated, however, that the tricycle driver only suffered minor injuries and that “the swift intervention of emergency services allowed for immediate assistance.” The information confirmed that “his prognosis is favorable and he is expected to recover soon.”

At the time of publishing this report, the health condition of the injured in both accidents has not been disclosed.

Just three days ago, another serious traffic incident was reported at the entrance of the Monte Carlo neighborhood, in the city of Camagüey, when a motorcyclist collided with a Lada car, sustaining severe injuries.

On Saturday morning, a tragic accident in Guantánamo resulted in one death and one injury.

In 2024, Cuba recorded 7,507 traffic accidents -a 12% decrease from the previous year-, resulting in 634 fatalities (a 13% reduction) and 6,613 injuries (which decreased by 4%), according to statistics from the Specialized Traffic Body of the General Directorate of the Revolutionary National Police (PNR).

The Cuban government pointed out that drivers are the main culprits of traffic accidents in the country.
