Some of them commented in the Facebook group ‘Accidentes Buses & Camiones’ indicating that the elderly person may have failed to observe a stop sign or may not have had enough time to cross the road before being struck by the larger motorcycle.

After the impact, the elderly man lay on the pavement and, according to witnesses, seemed to lose consciousness momentarily due to the blow.

Emergency services arrived at the scene immediately and transported him to the Military Hospital, although he was later referred to the Provincial Hospital for further evaluation, particularly due to a possible traumatic brain injury.

So far, no serious complications have been reported regarding his health, although further information about his progress is expected.

Neighbors and passersby expressed their concern on social media about the condition of the injured person, emphasizing the importance of caution on the roads and the need for greater attention to traffic signs, especially in high-traffic areas like the accident site.

Increase in motorcycle accidents in Cuba

The case of Camagüey adds to a worrying trend of traffic accidents involving motorcycles in Cuba. In recent months, several serious incidents have been reported in different regions of the country.

In Havana, a similar accident that occurred in early February 2025 left two injured after a collision between two motorcycles on a busy road. Another incident reported in September 2024 on the National Highway resulted in at least three injured after a crash between two motorcycles.

In Santiago de Cuba, an accident at the end of August 2024 also resulted in at least three injured following the collision of two motorcycles on a main road.

Furthermore, another tragic event in mid-December 2024 in Camagüey resulted in one death and two injuries after a serious traffic accident where two motorcycles—allegedly speeding—collided with a car. The deceased, one of the motorcyclists, was accompanied by his underage son, who had to be hospitalized.

These cases highlight the rise in motorcycle-related accidents in Cuba, underscoring the need for stricter road safety measures and increased awareness among drivers.
