The Cuban regime's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) reported that "malicious actors" hacked its account on the YouTube platform.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba informs that its official channel on the YouTube platform was compromised by malicious actors recently,” reads a statement from the institution this Monday.

The statement attributes the hack to "a manifestation of cybercrime" that "is part of the digital harassment practices that have been repeatedly reported by our institutions."

"The Foreign Ministry denounces this attack and clarifies that the content published during the period when the account was compromised does not represent in any way the position of the Government of Cuba, nor of this Ministry or any Cuban institution," they added.

They also stated, "work is being carried out in coordination with the relevant technical authorities to fully restore control of the channel, enhance its security, and prevent future actions of this kind."

"We reiterate our strong rejection of these illegal practices and our determination to defend the truth and the sovereign voice of Cuba in all digital spaces," they conclude.

At the time of writing this note, the account cubaminrex cu has been recovered. The content shared by the hackers has not been disclosed.

In January, the official account on the social network X (formerly Twitter) of the Cuban Foreign Ministry was hacked to promote a supposed cryptocurrency linked to the country.

The incident was also reported by MINREX, which described the event as a "cybercrime."

The attack consisted of publishing messages inviting users to invest in a Solana-based cryptocurrency called "Cuban Digital Coin." The messages included links that redirected to external sites, seemingly designed to scam internet users.

In April, the state-run Canal Caribe on YouTube was hacked, impacting its digital presence on the platform for several hours during which unrelated content linked to cryptocurrencies was displayed.
