Intensive care physicians from the Provincial General Teaching Hospital Captain Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, located in the Morón municipality of Ciego de Ávila, provided an update on the health status of the three patients who remain hospitalized following the mass accident that occurred on July 6 in the municipality of Majagua, Ciego de Ávila.
According to statements gathered by the Cuban News Agency (ACN), those admitted - a teenager and two young adults - are receiving specialized care and their clinical conditions show varying levels of progress, although two of them are showing significant improvements.
Favorable evolution of the minor
The patient Alexey Osvaldo Martínez Ramos, 14 years old, is still reported as being in critical condition but is responding positively to antimicrobial treatment.
According to Dr. Osmel Cruzata, a pediatric intensivist, the child exhibits mild febrile symptoms, hemodynamic stability, does not show respiratory distress, is feeding well, and maintains normal physiological functions.
Regarding the injuries sustained in the accident, orthopedic specialists have assessed the fractures in the femur, pelvis, and tibia, confirming that they are well-aligned.
The injuries, including a extensive head injury that required neurological attention, are progressing satisfactorily.
"Martínez Ramos only requires time to continue with the antimicrobial therapy," stated the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Her mother, Yudelkis Ramos Domínguez, expressed gratitude for the medical attention received, highlighting the dedication of the hospital staff.
Progressive improvement in one of the adults
Luis Vargas Hernández, 20 years old, has surpassed more than 72 hours without artificial ventilation and is showing signs of neurological improvement by regaining mobility in his limbs.
His overall condition also shows stability: controlled temperature, normal heart rate and respiratory rate, good urinary output, and adequate nutrition.
Reisdel Curbelo Pérez, head of the Adult Intensive Care Unit, confirmed that this patient has improved from the thoracic trauma and could be transferred to a regular ward as he requires less intensive care.
Reserved prognosis for the most serious case
The third patient, Yansiel Quevedo Núñez, 23 years old, continues to be reported as "critically unstable."
He remains on mechanical ventilation, with persistent high fever and hemodynamically unstable.
According to the medical report, antipyretics, cold solutions, and sedatives have been administered, along with medications to maintain blood pressure within acceptable ranges.
Although his condition remains critical, adjustments have been made to the antibiotic treatment and a favorable evolution is expected in the next 72 hours, according to the projections of the medical team.
Nine critically ill patients were admitted to Morón
The deputy director of Medical Assistance at the hospital, Miguel de Jesús Mazorra Pazos, recalled that the center received nine seriously injured individuals following the accident, five of whom were admitted to intensive care units.
