The Provincial People's Tribunal of Mayabeque sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for the crime of robbery with violence and intimidation after he broke into a house in the municipality of Güines, where he threatened a father and his son with a machete.

Among the accessory sanctions were included the deprivation of public rights, the confiscation of the machete used, and the prohibition of leaving the country until the main sentence is served.

The public and oral hearing had an exemplary character, reported the telecenter Telemayabeque.

The events took place in a family backyard in Catalina de Güines, where the accused entered the property with the intent to steal and, when discovered by the residents of the house, threatened them with a machete, putting a father and his son’s safety at risk.

The community was shocked by the violence and intimidation, especially because it occurred in the early hours of the morning.

According to the source, the trial upheld the rights and procedural guarantees, and both the prosecution and the accused have the right to appeal to the People's Supreme Court.

This event is part of the IV National Exercise for the prevention and confrontation of crime, corruption, drug-related issues, and illegal activities, organized in the country under the Cuba Segura program.
